Things to Do in India
The Golden Triangle
The Golden Triangle is the name for the popular touring route that takes in India’s regal capital Delhi, the unforgettable Taj Mahal in Agra, and the ancient ‘pink city’ of Jaipur in Rajasthan. This is often a tour taken by first time visitors to India and can include many of the region’s stunning historical and religious monuments.
Indian Cities
Delhi is a city of two halves and contrasts – the old and the new. Old Delhi is hectic, fast paced, with higgledy-piggledy streets interspersed with seemingly millions of people, motorcycles, and tuk tuks. New Delhi in contrast is neatly designed with wide avenues, floral roundabouts, parks and regal monuments. See the Red Fort, India Gate and take the city in by car. Agra is the home to the majestic Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and cited as one of the Wonders of the World. Jaipur is refreshingly laidback and easy going. Take a leisurely elephant back ride to the top of the Amber Fort, browse the colourful markets or stroll along the waterfront and marvel at the Lake Palace.
Jaipur is also famous for its colourful textiles and jewellery.
Tigers
India is home to one of the world’s most beautiful and majestic animals – the Tiger. One of the most easily accessible places to stand a good chance at spotting a wild tiger is in Ranthambore National Park in Rajasthan.
India’s Beaches
India’s smallest and most laid back state, Goa is a destination of rugged beaches and a real feeling of calm and serenity. North Goa was a haven for hippies in the seventies, and while the hippies have been and gone, it still carries a carefree vibe and a feeling that life is for the living. South Goa is more sedate with more peaceful beaches and more emphasis on quiet relaxation. Kerala has some incredibly scenic beaches within easy reach of the Backwaters. Kovalam is heaving with swaying palm trees, coconuts and banana plantations and has just few quality resorts hidden amongst them. A real escape from it all with an Indian twist.
