Cyprus

The island of Cyprus in the warm waters of the Mediterranean has two mountain ranges separated by a remarkable flat plain and a splendid coastline of bays, inlets and beaches. In the springtime, the whole island is transformed by wild flowers into a blaze of colour. Cyprus is an island with something for everybody. Head to the peaceful resorts of Coral Bay and Protaras for relaxation, or join the party at Ayia Napa. Other visitors find the the Troódos Mountains and the laidback feel of western Cyprus to their liking with small resorts such as Latchi, and Polis, Aghia Marina.

    Cyprus is one of the liveliest holiday islands in the Mediterranean, with lots of nightlife to suit all tastes throughout the summer. Most of the island’s large hotels host regular ‘folkloric’ events. The Middle Eastern influence is strong in Lemesós and in the Turkish-Cypriot north, with Lebanese and Egyptian belly-dancers performing in restaurants and bars.

    Food and drink

    Owning a restaurant seems to be the main occupation of an enormous number of Cypriots: from small ramshackle tavernas to sophisticated cosmopolitan establishments, there is a multitude of places to eat. Service is usually attentive and efficient, and there is a wide range of dishes available, both traditional Cypriot, Greek, Turkish and international.
